Things people ask.
Will it hurt the car?
No examination touches the vehicle — we only read public records that DVSA and DVLA already publish through their APIs.
Do you keep my data?
The plate is sent to DVSA and DVLA so they can respond. We cache the result in memory for up to 24 hours, then drop it. Server logs mask the plate (e.g. AB••CDE). No analytics, no tracking cookies, no signup.
Can MOTDoc tell me whether to buy this car?
No. We're not a vehicle inspection service or an advisor. We describe what's in the public record and leave the decision to you. Always conduct a physical inspection and seek professional advice before buying any used vehicle.
What if the car is brand new?
Cars under three years old don't need an MOT yet, so the chart will show no MOT history. We still pull the DVLA record so you can see the vehicle details.
What about cherished or personalised plates?
Supported. We accept all six UK plate formats — current (AB12 CDE), prefix, suffix, dateless, Northern Ireland, and diplomatic.
