What this site is
MOTDoc is a free tool that displays publicly available data from the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service and the DVSA MOT History API. It is not an HPI check, a vehicle inspection service, or a professional opinion.
A note on our terminology
MOTDoc is presented in the style of a clinic. We do this for clarity and a little warmth — it is not a claim of medical or professional authority. To be unambiguous:
- "Patient" always refers to a vehicle, never to a person. We never collect, display, or comment on data about people.
- "Examination", "diagnostics", and "chart" describe automated checks against public DVLA and DVSA records. They are not a physical inspection.
- "Findings" and "patterns worth noting" are factual observations from the public record — not a medical opinion, a recommendation, or a verdict on the vehicle.
- "MOTDoc" is a brand name and a metaphor. We are not doctors and the service does not provide medical, legal, financial, or mechanical advice.
No warranty on data accuracy
We show data exactly as it is returned by DVLA and DVSA. We don't verify it, correct it, or supplement it. If a plate is wrongly attached to the wrong record in a government system, we will show whatever that system returns. We cannot guarantee the data is current, complete, or free of errors.
No advice
MOTDoc does not provide advice or recommendations. We do not tell you whether a car is safe, dangerous, worth buying, or not worth buying. Any interpretation of what you see here is yours alone. Always conduct a physical inspection and seek professional advice before purchasing any used vehicle.
"Patterns worth noting"
The patterns section of a result is a set of factual observations about the data — for example, "the same advisory appeared in four consecutive MOTs" or "the mileage recorded at the 2023 MOT is lower than the 2022 MOT". These observations are not claims about condition, roadworthiness, or fair value. Many have ordinary explanations.
Your responsibilities
You agree to use this site for personal, informational use only. You agree not to scrape the service, attempt to overwhelm it, or probe large numbers of registrations that are not your own. UK registration plates are personal data under ICO guidance — please be respectful of other drivers.
Affiliate disclosures
The "What we don't show" card may link to paid HPI check services. Where a link is marked as an affiliate link, we may earn a small commission if you click through and purchase. That commission does not change what we show you, and it does not change the price you pay. Affiliate links are always clearly labelled. There are no hidden paid placements anywhere else on the site.
Liability
MOTDoc is provided "as is" and without any warranty, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of the site, from any action taken on the basis of information displayed, or from any failure or unavailability of the service.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top of the page will reflect the most recent revision.
Affiliation with government bodies
MOTDoc is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by DVLA, DVSA, or any other UK government agency. We are an independent service that reads their public APIs.
Children
MOTDoc is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly process data from children, and we do not require an account or any personal information to use the service. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through the site, please contact us at [email protected] and we will take reasonable steps to remove it.
Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms, and any non-contractual obligations arising out of or in connection with them, are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
