Privacy notice
Last updated: 22 April 2026
The short version
- We don't store your registration plate on our servers beyond a short cache.
- We don't use tracking cookies or analytics.
- We don't ask for your email, name, or location.
- We mask registration plates in any server log.
What we collect
When you look up a registration plate, that plate is sent to our server so we can call the official DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service and the DVSA MOT History API. Nothing else about you is collected.
Our server writes a short operational log for each request (timestamp, HTTP status, a rough
latency measurement). Any registration plate mentioned in those logs is masked — for example,
AB12CDE appears as AB••CDE.
What we count
We keep two simple aggregate totals for the service: how many pages have been served, and how many MOT examinations have been performed (today and all-time). These are integers — no IP addresses, no cookies, no per-user identifiers, no link to any individual visitor. The numbers are shown publicly on the home page.
How long we keep lookups
To stay fast and to avoid hammering the official APIs, we cache the results of a lookup in memory for up to 24 hours. After that window, or whenever the server restarts, the cached record is discarded. We do not write cached lookups to disk.
What we share with third parties
The registration plate is sent to DVLA and DVSA so they can respond with the vehicle record. Their own privacy notices apply to that exchange. We don't share your plate with anyone else.
If you click through to an affiliate partner link on the "What we don't show" card, that partner's own site and privacy notice take over from there.
Cookies and tracking
We don't set tracking cookies, we don't run analytics, and we don't embed third-party scripts
that track you.
The one third-party resource the site loads is a JavaScript library
(html2canvas) served from a public CDN, used only to render the shareable card
as an image. It does not receive your registration plate.
Browser storage
Your browser may store the URLs you visit in its own history (that's normal browser behaviour, not something we control). We don't set any local storage or IndexedDB entries of our own in v1.
Your rights
UK registration plates are classed as personal data by the ICO. Because we don't retain plates beyond the in-memory cache, and we don't tie lookups to any identity, there isn't personal data on file about you for us to give you access to, correct, or delete.
If you have a specific concern, or believe we're handling data in a way we shouldn't, please get in touch.
